| Περιγραφή: | В данной работе рассматривается эволюция неоплатонической школы в Александрии, иллюстрируемая избранными фрагментами из «Философской истории» Дамаския, впервые переведенными на русский язык. Эти фрагменты касаются александрийской интеллектуальной сцены второй половины пятого века, особенно обстоятельств преследования неоплатонических философов христианскими властями. Дамаский ищет и, как ему кажется, находит достойный выход для честного человека, живущего в эти темные времена. Он не согласен «забиться в угол и оттуда многословно и величественно философствовать о справедливости и благоразумии», так как «речи, не подкрепленные делами, суетны и пусты» (fr. 124 Athanassiadi). С этой целью он отправляется в Афины и благодаря своим организационным талантам возрождает академическую традицию, заметно потускневшую после смерти Прокла, но теперь вновь, по словам Агафия Схоластика, переживающую расцвет и объединившую лучшие умы всего эллинского мира ( 2.30.3). In this paper, I trace the evolution of the Neoplatonic school in Alexandria on the basis of select fragments from Damascius’ , translated into Russian for the first time. The fragments concern the Alexandrian intellectual scene of the second part of the fifth century, especially the circumstances of the prosecutions of Neoplatonic philosophers by Christian authorities. Damascius seeks and, it seems, finds a decent way out for an honest man living in these dark times. He does not agree to “crawl into a corner, and from there philosophize majestically and verbally about justice and prudence”, since “speeches unsupported by works are vain and empty” (fr. 124 Athanassiadi). For this reason, he goes to Athens and, thanks to his organizational talents, revives the Academic tradition, which has been in decline since the death of Proclus, but has subsequently, according to Agathius Scholasticus, flourished again, bringing together the best minds of the whole Greek world ( 2.30.3). |
