Этнический ареал варягов, упомянутых в летописях в качестве основателей русского государства, может быть определен при уточнении координат соседних с ними народов и территорий, перечисляемых в этногеографическом введении «Повести временных лет». Местоположение сопутствующих варягам племен обычно определяется как северо- или западноевропейское, однако такая локализация противоречит и летописным формам этнонимов, и историческим данным о географических знаниях Древней Руси. Такой этноним, как «агняне», является скорее этноконфессиональным термином, применяемым к населению южной части Прибалтики. Словом «галичане» обозначается славянизированная часть балтийского племени «галинды». Все это позволяет локализовать варягов на южной и восточной части побережья и островах Балтийского моря. The ethnic area of the Varangians mentioned in the chronicles as the founders of the Russian state can be determined by specifying the coordinates of the neighboring peoples and territories listed in the ethnogeographic introduction of the Tale of Bygone Years. The location of the tribes accompanying the Varangians is usually defined as North or West European, but such localization contradicts both the chronicle forms of ethnonyms and the historical data on the geographical knowledge of Ancient Rus. Such an ethnonym as Agnyane is rather an ethno-confessional term applied to the population of the southern part of the Baltic region. The word Galiciane denotes the Slavicized part of the Baltic tribe Galindae. All this makes it possible to localize the Vikings on the southern and eastern parts of the coast and the islands of the Baltic Sea. |
