Description: The proper organization of a lawyer’s public speech is an essential component of a court hearing. It is the lawyer’s speech that helps to clarify the factual circumstances of the case, provide a well-reasoned legal interpretation of the facts, explain the essence of the dispute, identify the strengths and weaknesses of both the client’s and the opposing party’s positions and firmly defend the client’s interests and persuade the court. The article analyzes the material in English of the closing argument of the defense attorney. The purpose of the study is to identify possible communicative and pragmatic blocks that contribute to the construction of the attorney’s speech in court as a part of closing argument. The subject of the study is the compositional structure of the defense speech consisting of communicative and pragmatic blocks. The general scientific methods have been used in the study: analysis, synthesis, generalization, systematization, as well as the descriptive method, etc. The study resulted in a description of the communicative and pragmatic blocks used in a specific closing argument by a defense attorney
Правильная организация публичного выступления адвоката является значимой составляющей в судебном заседании. Именно речь адвоката помогает прояснить фактические обстоятельства в деле, сделать возможным грамотное юридическое обоснование для толкования фактов, разъяснение сути спора, установление сильных и слабых мест как своих, так и противной стороны, твердое отстаивание своей позиции, что означает защиту интересов клиента, а также убеждение суда. В статье проводится анализ материала заключительной речи адвоката защиты на английском языке. Цель исследования установить возможные коммуникативно-прагматические блоки, участвующие в построении текста выступления адвоката в суде, в рамках заключительной речи. Предмет исследования – композиционная структура защитительной речи, состоящая из коммуникативно-прагматических блоков. В рамках исследования применялись общенаучные методы: анализ, синтез, обобщение, систематизации, также описательный метод и др. Результатом исследования послужило описание коммуникативно-прагматических блоков, используемых в конкретной заключительной речи адвоката защиты
