| Description: | Word play retains the interest of Russian and foreign scholars as a complex subject of study due to its rich expressive potential and its increasing popularity among authors of works of art, including television series. The abundant toolkit of functions of wordplay used in film discourse combined with the growing importance of cinematography in modern mass culture are of particular interest in the study of wordplay in the specified type of discourse. The article gives a description and analysis of functions of word play in television series of the last decade and a half, produced in the United States of America. The illustrative material gathered from TV shows is distinguished by a rich genre diversity, which confirms the idea that the genre features of television series do not affect the nature of the word play dominating in the discourse. As a result, the following functions of the language game were identified: emotional-expressive, individual-language-creative, relaxational, characterological, self-enhancing, comic and hedonistic. Языковая игра представляет собой интересный предмет изучения, поскольку обладает богатым выразительным потенциалом и пользуется большой популярностью среди авторов произведений искусства, в том числе телесериалов. Статья посвящена описанию и анализу функций языковой игры в кинематографическом дискурсе, а именно – в телесериалах последних полутора десятилетий, произведённых в Соединённых Штатах Америки. Выборка сериалов отличается богатым жанровым разнообразием, что подтверждает вывод о том, что жанровые особенности телесериалов не влияют на характер языковой игры. В результате анализа выделены такие функции языковой игры, как эмоционально-экспрессивная, индивидуально-языкотворческая, релаксационная, характерологическая, самовозвышающая, комическая и гедонистическая. |
