Description: By using the bilinear canonical forms of variational principles, this paper demonstrates that the generalized heat conduction theory in which the velocity of the thermal disturbance through the bodies is finite, can be correctly variationally stated. The Lagrangian functions figuring in the theory are of the bilinear structure, where the bilinearity comes from the fact that the authors introduce approximate doublets of temperature as well as of the heat displacement vector fields. Applying the ideas of the variational principle with vanishing parameter and direct methods of variational calculus, the classical Fourier heat conduction problems are studied.
