| Περίληψη: | The article reports that JCL or job control language for OS 360 is the means by which the user controls the interaction between his data, the program he is using, and the computer's operating system. The IBM 360 operating system and the job control language which enables the user to instruct it is among the most flexible and versatile available. Unfortunately, versatility and flexibility in this case also mean greater complexity, and the operating system of the 360 requires the user to supply the computer with additional information beyond that which he has already supplied on his SPSS control cards. The major function of JCL, for users of the SPSS system is to. provide the operating system with information on the exact location, type, and form of the user's data files-both input and output. And it is precisely because the SPSS system provides the user with so many options for the input and output of data that he must also suffer through the additional pains of preparing JCL cards for his files. When the user is, for example, entering his data from a BCD tape or disk file, rather than from cards, the JCL requirement varies slightly. Or if the user wishes to save his file at the conclusion of a run, in the form of an SPSS system rile, this too requires the addition of several JCL cards. Then, when the user reenters his data into the system as an SPSS system file, some modifications in the JCL cards must be made again. |
