Abstract: This article provides a comprehensive overview of Colaianni Speech, a voice and speech pedagogy developed by Louis Colaianni that integrates phonetics, breath awareness, and whole-body engagement to support actors in accent acquisition and vocal expression. Central to the method are Colaianni’s phonetic pillows—tactile, colorful representations of International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols designed to facilitate kinesthetic learning—and the incorporation of Kristin Linklater’s Sound and Movement progression as a foundational practice. The pedagogy emphasizes experiential, non-prescriptive learning through exercises such as the Personal Partner Project, which fosters accent awareness and transcription skills in diverse student groups. The article also outlines the certification process for teachers, highlighting its individualized and inclusive nature, and provides resources for further study within the Joy of Phonetics community.
