Περίληψη: The article focuses on India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI)-led development model and its implications for digital economies in the Global South. India’s approach, exemplified by the “India Stack” framework, builds a layered digital ecosystem with publicly governed foundational systems—such as Aadhaar (a universal digital identity), the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), and the Account Aggregator framework—that promote interoperability, inclusion, and competition at the application level. This model has significantly enhanced financial inclusion, welfare delivery, and digital payments adoption, particularly benefiting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), while fostering a startup ecosystem. The article argues that India’s DPI offers a hybrid alternative to market-led or state-controlled digital economy models, providing a flexible, scalable pathway for developing countries to harness digital technologies aligned with their institutional realities and development priorities.
