Περίληψη: The article presents a forecast for the U.S. power generation sector for the second decade of the 21st century. The authors project gas-fired capacity to grow at the expense of coal until 2015. The authors also estimate 66 gigawatts (GW) of coal-fired capacity to be retired by 2015 as a function of an old coal-fired fleet and the sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions reductions required by the Clean Air Transport Rule and the Mercury and Air Toxic Standards.
