Abstract (English): Sustaining Kaizen activities is considered important in practice, but the realization of continuation involves difficulties. From a research perspective, it is difficult to obtain sufficient systematic suggestions for management to sustain Kaizen activities. In this context, this study focuses on the impact of the content of previous Kaizen activities on subsequent Kaizen activities, and using the perspective of routine dynamics theory, which has been theorized in recent years, then conducts case studies of two lines’ long-term sustaining Kaizen activities over ten years. Specifically, events and actions in each line’s Kaizen activities are organized in chronological order, and narrative descriptions are presented to describe the relationships among these events and actions. From the narrative descriptions, we identify items in each line in which routineness is acquired. The results also reveal the existence of a process that retains routineness through the interactions among these items. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
