| Περίληψη: | * This study introduces the Technology-Enabled Financial Help-Seeking (TEFHS) framework and provides an empirical test of Stage Five source selection in an environment where generative AI is accessible. The analysis uses a survey of 2,000 actively employed state and local public-sector workers fielded in January 2025. * Financial stress operates differently than traditional help-seeking theory anticipates. Stress was associated with lower likelihood of using AI, either alone or with a financial planner, but was not associated with using a financial planner alone. Among consumers who sought help from a single source, those reporting financial stress were nearly twice as likely to choose a planner over AI. * Income predicted engagement with a financial planner and combined-source use but did not predict AI engagement. AI may extend access to financial guidance to segments of the workforce that have not historically engaged with professional advice. * Homeowners were 2.5 times more likely than renters to choose a financial planner over AI, suggesting that financial complexity drives consumers toward human professionals. * For financial planners, the findings indicate that AI users and planner users differ demographically and economically, while the most financially stressed consumers are least likely to seek help from any source.
