Περίληψη: The self-healing mechanism, originally derived from living organisms, has recently been designed and applied widely in artificial systems. Many new reliability models have been proposed to depict the special process of self-healing, but most of them are for single-unit systems. To bridge this gap, this paper develops a new reliability model for multi-component systems with the self-healing process of each component. The system experiences some downtime when several components are in the self-healing state simultaneously. We model the system by a time-homogeneous Markov process, based on which some important measures are presented to evaluate the reliability performance of the system. Besides, the system downtime is further investigated by considering examples of production systems where the self-healing resources accumulated in working periods could then be used during the downtime, making part of the downtime unobservable. A new reliability model is proposed for systems with unobservable downtime, in which the length of unobservable system downtime is modeled by a random variable depending on the length of the previous working period. The reliability performance is measured based on the technique of aggregated stochastic process. Finally, numerical examples are presented to illustrate the proposed model and results.
