Περίληψη: The research investigates the hydrological variables influencing surface runoff volume in the Wadi Jarboot basin using the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) model, developed by the United States Department of Agriculture in 1970, specifically the Soil Conservation Service Curve Number (SCS-CN) method. The analysis is conducted within a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) environment. The adopted methodology is based on the integration and analysis of spatial data, including land cover, Hydrologic Soil Groups (HSG), and a Digital Elevation Model (DEM), in addition to daily rainfall data covering the period from 2014 to 2025, with the support of Remote Sensing (RS) and GIS techniques . The results indicate that the Curve Number (CN) values ranged between 74 and 92, reflecting variability in the basin’s hydrological characteristics and soil permeability. The study also reveals a strong positive correlation between rainfall intensity and the resulting runoff volume. At a rainfall intensity of 78.5 mm, the surface runoff volume reached approximately 2,897,710.70 cubic meters. The generated hydrological maps show that the northern areas are the most vulnerable to surface runoff hazards, primarily due to soil characteristics and limited vegetation cover. Accordingly, the study emphasizes the necessity of constructing water harvesting dams in highrunoff areas to enhance water sustainability and optimize the utilization of these water resources for economic development purposes, provided they are properly managed, given their significance as a vital water resource for local populations and development projects.
