Abstract: This article introduces a special issue focused on the economic policy challenges and consequences arising from the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, which began in February 2022. It summarizes 12 papers that analyze the war’s unprecedented economic shock, its global spillovers, and policy responses across themes including real-time economic measurement under crisis, geopolitical risk transmission, monetary and financial stability, and tax policy for post-war reconstruction. The contributions highlight methodological innovations for assessing economic impacts amid disrupted data, the heterogeneous effects of geopolitical risk on firms, trade, and fiscal sustainability, and the necessity of adaptive policy frameworks during crises. The issue also emphasizes the importance of building resilient fiscal and financial institutions now to support Ukraine’s complex long-term reconstruction. [Extracted from the article]
