Abstract (English): The article addresses the increasing proportion of single-person households in Switzerland and their demographic development up to 2055. According to the Federal Statistical Office (FSO), the number of households will rise from 4.1 million in 2025 to almost 4.9 million in 2055, with single-person households increasing by 26 percent in particular and making up 40 percent of all households. The main reasons are migration, demographic change with an aging population, and the trend toward smaller households, especially among older people and young adults. Regional differences show that household growth is stronger mainly in cantons near large centers such as Lucerne, Geneva, and Zurich, while more remote cantons sometimes experience declines in larger households. Migration cannot fully compensate for the decline in large family households, and increasing life expectancy leads to a persistently high number of small households with older persons. Abstract (German): Der Artikel thematisiert den zunehmenden Anteil von Einpersonenhaushalten in der Schweiz und deren demografische Entwicklung bis 2055. Laut dem Bundesamt für Statistik (BFS) steigt die Zahl der Haushalte von 4,1 Millionen im Jahr 2025 auf fast 4,9 Millionen im Jahr 2055, wobei insbesondere Einpersonenhaushalte um 26 Prozent zunehmen und 40 Prozent aller Haushalte ausmachen werden. Hauptgründe sind Migration, der demografische Wandel mit einer alternden Bevölkerung sowie der Trend zu kleineren Haushalten, vor allem bei älteren Menschen und jungen Erwachsenen. Regionale Unterschiede zeigen, dass das Haushaltswachstum vor allem in Kantonen nahe großer Zentren wie Luzern, Genf und Zürich stärker ausfällt, während entferntere Kantone teilweise Rückgänge bei größeren Haushalten verzeichnen. Die Migration kann den Rückgang großer Familienhaushalte nicht vollständig ausgleichen, und die steigende Lebenserwartung führt zu einer anhaltend hohen Zahl von Kleinhaushalten mit älteren Personen.
