| Abstract (English): | This study explores tourists’ perceptions of cycling as a form of recreational and health tourism and its potential contribution to sustainable destination development in Sokobanja, Serbia. Although the sustainability of cycling tourism has been widely acknowledged, little empirical research has examined how tourists themselves perceive this relationship. The main aim of this research is to identify the motivational factors driving tourists’ participation in cycling activities and to assess how these experiences contribute to individual well-being and the broader sustainable development of destinations. Using a quantitative approach, a structured questionnaire was administered to 227 recreational cyclists at Fruška Gora, selected as a benchmark destination with established cycling infrastructure and wellness programs. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s Chi-Square tests to explore gender-based motivational differences. Results indicate that motives such as relaxation, enjoyment of nature, health improvement, and social connection are the strongest predictors of engagement in recreational cycling. Gender differences are significant but moderate, suggesting that men associate cycling more with achievement and social belonging, while women emphasize health and balance. The study contributes scientifically by linking tourist motivation and psychological well-being with the sustainability framework of destination development. Practically, the findings support local tourism authorities in Sokobanja to integrate cycling tourism into spa and wellness initiatives as an ecologically and socially sustainable form of tourism. Rad znanstveno doprinosi povezivanju turističke motivacije i psihološke dobrobiti s okvirom održivog razvoja destinacija. U praktičnom smislu, rezultati pružaju potporu lokalnim turistickim vlastima u Sokobanji u integraciji cikloturizma u lječilišne i wellness inicijative kao ekološki i društveno održivog oblika turizma.
