Περίληψη: Auroras are one of the most prominent manifestations of the interaction of planetary magnetic fields and their atmospheres with the solar wind flow. Earth's auroras have been studied since the pioneering work of Carl Störmer in the early 20th century. Auroras on the giant planets were discovered during the flybys of the Voyager and Pioneer spacecraft and were subsequently investigated in greater detail during the Galileo, Juno, and Cassini orbital missions on Jupiter (Galileo, Juno) and Saturn (Cassini). During these missions, the spacecraft has completed dozens of orbits around the planets and mapped the global structure of planetary magnetospheres. Furthermore, the steadily increasing capabilities of ground-based observatories, as well as space telescopes like Hubble (UV band) and James Webb (IR emission), provide an expanding stream of data on atmosphere–ionosphere–magnetosphere coupling and the solar wind's influence on magnetospheric dynamics. Recently, interest in these processes has been renewed following the detection of auroral emissions on Neptune. Based on simple analytical models, this paper demonstrates how different magnetosphere sizes affect the global morphology of auroras of the magnetized planets in the Solar System.
