| Περίληψη: | Ce3+-doped high-Gd oxyfluoride glasses are promising scintillator candidates for future large electron–positron colliders owing to their high density and excellent scintillation performance. However, the experimental studies have shown that the luminescence decay time of Ce3+ in the glass system is much longer than its intrinsic decay time under ultraviolet excitation at wavelengths below 275 nm. This phenomenon has seriously compromised the scintillation decay properties and has not yet been adequately elucidated. In this study, we aimed to clarify the inherent mechanisms responsible for these long-decay components. Ce3+-doped Gd 2 O 3 –GdF 3 –B 2 O 3 –Al 2 O 3 –SiO 2 oxyfluoride glasses were prepared using a high-temperature melt-quenching method under a reducing atmosphere. The effects of glass composition on the photoluminescence and scintillation properties of Ce3+ were investigated by systematically adjusting the contents of Gd 2 O 3 , GdF 3 , and CeO 2. Time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy was employed to examine the Gd3+→Ce3+ energy-transfer process and to identify the spectra of the long-decay component. The results indicate that the long-decay components mainly originate from the energy transfer congestion effect resulting from a low Ce3+/Gd3+ ratio, the energy-transfer suppression effect caused by F− ions, and presence of impurity luminescent ions. This study provides essential theoretical insights into the energy-transfer mechanisms among rare-earth ions and provides significant experimental guidance for the design and optimization of high-performance Ce3+-doped high-Gd glass scintillators.
