Περίληψη: In recent years, there has been an active development of new technologies in the field of geophysics, and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) being a notable example. This cutting-edge technology, which utilizes optical cables and communication lines, has garnered significant interest among professionals due to its innovative solutions and approaches to data collection and analysis in the Earth's crust. However, DAS is not without its drawbacks, and the question arises: will virtual geophysical instruments based on optical cables truly replace traditional geophysical tools in the field of fundamental research in the near future? This article aims to address this question by discussing the fundamental principles of DAS, its advantages and disadvantages, and comparing virtual sensors with classical geophysical instruments.
