Abstract: Dust-ion-acoustic shock waves (DIASWs) have been investigated in an unmagnetized dusty plasma composed of regularized kappa-distributed electrons, warm ions, and negatively charged stationary dust particles where dust charge fluctuation is considered. The nonlinear Burgers-type equation describing the properties of DIASWs is derived using the reductive perturbation technique. The effects of regularized kappa-distributed electrons on DIASWs are analyzed with parameters relevant to Saturn's magnetosphere. It is found that the fundamental characteristics of DIASWs are significantly modified by the spectral index κ , the cutoff parameter α , and the ion temperature. Both positive and negative potentials can exist, depending on the values of κ and α. The findings of this investigation may help in understanding the electrostatic structures observed in Saturn's magnetosphere. Properties of dust-ion-acoustic shock waves. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
