| Περίληψη: | Maintaining high-quality test case documentation in Agile Software Development (ASD) is a critical challenge, as time constraints, resource limitations, and the inherent complexity of managing interconnected test cases (TC) often hinder documentation efforts. Agile focuses on speed and flexibility over comprehensive documentation further exacerbates these issues, negatively impacting TC reusability, consistency, and long-term quality. This paper aims to address these challenges and provide insights into improving TC documentation practices to enhance overall software quality and testing effectiveness. This study employs a mixed-methods approach of surveys and structured interviews with 36 experienced software testing professionals. Quantitative analysis revealed that correctness, readability, and understandability are the most pivotal characteristics, while specificity and consistency received relatively lower prioritization. Validation of three TCs (TC1, TC2, and TC3) highlighted recurring weaknesses in readability, consistency, and editability despite strengths in correctness and specificity, underscoring systemic documentation challenges. Qualitative insights revealed trade-offs between documentation thoroughness and agile delivery timelines, with experts emphasizing the importance of balancing these factors to ensure efficiency. Recommendations include adopting standardized templates, leveraging automation and version control tools, conducting regular peer reviews, and training teams in agile-compatible documentation strategies to improve TC reusability and software quality. Challenges like time constraints, resource limitations, and research generalizability further highlight the need for practical, scalable solutions in real-world testing environments. The study contributes to helping testers via providing the quality characteristics of TC documentation that produce effective TCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
