| Abstract: | Using the example of the Altai–Sayan region, the degree of tectonic fragmentation of the geoenvironment is estimated as one of important factors influencing the ecological and landscape appearance of the territory based on the unit length of lineaments and the density of lineaments (all and only short ones) and their intersection nodes. Positive anomalies of the listed parameters mark areas where a significant number of epicenters of modern crustal earthquakes are localized. This can be explained by the correspondence of lineaments not only to fracturing zones along which displacements of large-amplitude blocks did not occur but also to active faults (inherited and newly formed). A number of such local-scale irregularities were identified based on analysis of structural and geomorphological profiles. On a regional scale, many active faults are shown to correspond to zones of gradient change in the unit length of lineaments on horizontal sections and vertical profiles. Based on this feature, several large hypothetical active faults have been identified. In addition, the nature of fragmentation observed on vertical profiles has allowed us to suggest that neotectonic deformations are related to thermofluidic convective movements of different ranks.
